Can We Talk About Divine Masculine Please?
I have been talking about masculine and feminine energies with my son who is a very wise 28 years old and is going through a lot of introspection and growth right now. He’s also been having some back issues on his right side, so I initiated a conversation about the energies of the human body — feminine (left side) and masculine (right side), which may play into some of his pain.
This caused him to ask, “I hear so much about the Divine Feminine. Why does no one talk about the Divine Masculine?”
I replied, “I do! And the people I work with do! But you are right. There is not much discussion of it in the world, perhaps because we have seen too much of toxic masculine energy and the pendulum must swing before balance is found.”
He said, “Well, what is the Divine Masculine? What does it even look like?
I mentioned a few traits and he said, “Yeah, but those could fit lots of men, even the jerks and a-holes of the world. How are the traits differentiated from toxic to divine?”
“These are masculine energies that, allowed to run unchecked, can turn toxic.” I replied. “They must be tempered in order to become forms of the Divine Masculine.” I suggested we look up more information online. However, after reading multiple articles that seemed like a bunch of regurgitated backwash, I suggested we make our own list. Here it is, a joining of mother and son energy to create a reasonably complete and authentic picture of Divine Masculine:
Divine Masculine Traits
Strength, tempered by Gentleness and Vulnerability — The strength of man is a gift to the world, but only when coupled with the ability to be gentle and vulnerable. Gentleness is the grace side of strength that smooths the road. Vulnerability draws others to us and breaks down more barriers than strength alone.
Conviction/Knowing, tempered by Openness — It is important to have convictions, and to follow them. It is less important to know something with such certainty that any alternate view is refuted. The “I am right, you are wrong” attitude has caused much destruction worldwide. Openness is a critical antidote to this certainty of man.
Protection, tempered by Allowing — Protection is another fine trait that can be overused and abused, protectors must allow the protected some space to find their own way, make their own mistakes, and learn how to protect themselves.
Reason, tempered by Imagination — A strong sense of reason is best when it leaves room for unknown possibilities. Recognizing that there may be yet-to-be-discovered datum on the matter gives room for alternate realities.
Self-Control, tempered by Emotion — Self-Control is a valuable anchor, but even better when emotion and exuberance are given a chance to have their day as well. Men benefit, as do those around them, from embracing the willingness to cry and express soft feelings instead of bottling them up.
Firmness, tempered by Yielding — So many situations call for firmness, yet also benefit from the ability to yield wisely when necessary.
Action, tempered by Rest/Restoration — Action is important because it gets stuff done! The healthy support of this trait is not golf, TV, or sloth, although all of these are commonly called “rest.” Nourishing rest-oration comes from quiet, nature, meditation, and other soul-nurturing times.
Leadership, tempered by Receptiveness— The best leaders cultivate receptiveness to new ideas from a variety of sources, regardless of position or background. True leadership welcomes input, even from the lowliest of sources, and even if it is unflattering.
Confidence, tempered by Humility — Having confidence is a fine characteristic. Having humility makes confidence truly beautiful. Humility acknowledges that anything we know, anything we have, is a gift it of life. This combination is as Divine Masculine as it gets.
I believe there is confusion about masculine and feminine energies because our society has, for so long, stereotyped the desired masculine profile as being strong, sexy, and rich, while the desired feminine profile was nice, pretty, and compliant. Whereas women were expected to be not much more than obedient ornaments, men were valued for how well they rated in the three Ps: Protection, Production, and Procreation. So, while men were charging forward to be “all that,” women were left on the sideline to sigh in admiration.
This is a total travesty for women. And, yes, for men as well. Sure, men got more recognition and reward, but their souls were left to perish in the sands of muscular stoicism. And their soul-parched pursuit of the desired goals has harmed all of us, and our planet mother too.
This is why we hear a calling now for the Divine Feminine to rise up, to bring forth a balance and a healing that we all need.
We operate better when we are in balance, as a society, and as individuals.
Stay tuned for the next article, defining the Divine Feminine. When Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine co-exist in our world, we will finally have Heaven on Earth. But it’s gonna take all of us to get on board…..
